October 15-19, 2008 Monoprinting: The Painterly Print Jeanne Beck Workshop description: Monoprinting is basically a printmaking process where slow drying pigments or thickened dyes are applied to a smooth, nonabsorbent surface like plexiglass or vinyl, then patterned using a multitude of methods and printed in full or part on cloth. The word mono means each monoprint creates a unique and one of a kind print. The process lends itself to experimentation and innovation. We will start with textile paints and move on to thickened dyes to experiment with a variety of tools and techniques for patterning and mark making -- including masks and resists and fabric manipulation -- for fascinating and never entirely predictable results.
