July 24-25, 2008 Soy Wax Batik Rayna Gillman Workshop description: A 21st century approach to an ancient art. Non-toxic soy wax, water-based pigments and household tools are all you need to create gorgeous fabrics. We’ll dye and discharge with this easy-to-remove wax as a resist on cotton, rayon, or silk. Come play with soy wax and you’ll be hooked! Instructor bio: Rayna Gillman works in mixed media on textiles and paper, integrating text and images through a variety of surface design, collage, and printmaking techniques. Captivated by found and recycled objects, she became intrigued by the textures and design potential of such items as corrugated cardboard, construction fence, and household tools. Noted for her instinctive sense of color and her improvisational approach to surface design, she is an experienced teacher and facilitator who encourages students to work spontaneously, to ask "what if?" and to experiment. She has taught both nationally and abroad. A featured artist on "Simply Quilts," she has written for Quilting Arts Magazine, and her work has been widely published. She has exhibited in museums and galleries around the country and her work is in private collections in the U.S., France, and Belgium. Visit her website at www.studio78.net and her blog at http://studio78notes.blogspot.com. Tuition: $175.00 Level: All Materials fee: $20-$30 |
