Dyeing Basket Reed
using Diazol Direct Dyes

Please read directions carefully before starting.

There are two methods for dyeing basket reed with Diazol Direct Dyes: brush the dye on or immerse the basket reed into a dye bath. Always do test samples before working on a large project. For additional information, visit our website at www.prochemical.com.

Supplies
Diazol Direct Dye Powder
plastic or enamel container
sponge or brush

Procedure

Brush On Application

1. Make dye stain by dissolving the appropriate amount of dye from the chart below in 2 cups (500 ml) HOT water 140oF (60oC).

Pale Medium Dark
Dye powder 1/8 tsp (0.3 gm) 1 tsp (2.5 gm) 3 tsp (7.5 gm)

2. Wear rubber gloves and sponge or brush 1-3 coats of dye stain on your basket reed. Let it dry completely and your basket reed is ready to use.

Dye Bath Application

1. Make the dye bath by dissolving the appropriate amount of dye from the chart below, in 2 cups (500 ml) of HOT 140oF (60oC).water.

Pale Medium Dark
Dye powder ¼ tsp (0.6 gm) 1½ tsp (3.8 gm) 4 tsp (10 gm)

2. Once the dye is dissolved, add an additional 1 ½ quarts (1500 ml) of HOT water.

3. Immerse basket reed into hot dye bath. Turn the reed occasionally for 20 minutes.

4. After 20 minutes, remove the basket reed and rinse in room temperature 75o to 95oF (24o to 35oC) water.

5. Let it dry completely and your basket reed is ready to use.
