Workshop description: In this
workshop students will explore the many possibilities of
working with wax.
They will apply the wax with many different tools, like the traditional javanese tools, tjap and tjanting .They will also use things that they can
find in the kitchen or that they can make from wood scraps or paper.
Layering wax and paints/dyes is an important item. This will result in a
mysterious looking cloth. Students will make a lot of samples. Manipulating
the fabric before applying the wax will give different results. Each day I
will explain another possibility of the wax-technique.Students will work on
different kind of fabrics, but also on a variety of paper. These papers with
batik are excellent for making collages. I will give personal attention,
each student can develop their own ideas. There will be a theme. Students
must be willing to experiment.

Day one: Working with different kind of brushes. Understanding and
experience the process of layering. (wax/dye/wax/dye etc). Starting to use

patterns in combination with brushes. Introducing of the tjap.
Day three: Continue working with the tjap. Manipulating the
