June 22-26
Improvisational Screen Printing
Jane Dunnewold

Workshop description: This workshop combines the best of two worlds. We will spend the first two days exploring temporary and permanent silk screen surfaces used for a variety of printed applications - dye on the screen, aquarelle crayon, flour paste, wax, spray and acrylic paint. Emphasis will be on the creation of samples using tempera paint. Once these experiments are completed, the focus will shift to the use of thickened MX dyes. Demonstrations will include the use of an interfacing stencil to print two-color images simultaneously.

Instructor bio: Jane chaired the Design Department at the Southwest School of Art and Craft in San Antonio, Texas, from 1990 until May 2000. She is the author of several books, Complex Cloth (1996), Fifteen Beads (1998), and Improvisational Screen Printing (self-published, 2003). Her work is centered on the notion of art cloth - fabric which is layered with dyes, paints and other media as a way of achieving a visually rich and complete surface. Jane has been included in numerous national exhibitions including Quilt Nationals ‘93, ‘95 and ‘97 and Visions San Diego ‘95 and ‘97. She now maintains a private teaching studio in San Antonio.
